Fans get Fired up for Kasabian city date

ARENA rock giants Kasabian are warming up for their summer festival appearances with a handful of intimate gigs – starting at the O2 Academy in Sheffield.

And The Star has got the first pair of tickets to give away for the show on Saturday June 4.

Venue bosses expect fans to start queuing overnight and tickets to sell out fast when they go on sale this Friday at 9am.

O2 Academy Sheffield’s general manager Justin Smith said: “They are without a doubt one of this year’s ‘must see’ festival headline acts, so it’s a major coup for them to choose our venue as one of just a handful for an intimate warm up show.”

Other intimate gigs are scheduled for Leeds’ O2 Academy on June 5, Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall on June 7, and the Apollo in Manchester on June 8.

The Leicester band are planning to mix hits with new material – previewing songs from their forthcoming as-yet-untitled new album, which is due to be released this year.

They are busy working on the record in San Francisco with Dan The Automator, who produced their last album West Ryder Lunatic Pauper Asylum.

The band’s first three albums have all gone platinum and they have had top 10 singles including Cut Off, Empire and 2009 smash Fire, which reached number three – their highest singles chart position. It was used as the Barclays Premier League theme song for the 2010–11 season Matchday programme.

But they are most revered as a live band.

They headline the RockNess Festival in Scotland, on Friday June 10, then join Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, and Sheffield’s own Pulp to make TV history at the Isle Of White Festival – as the first music festival to be broadcast live in 3D on the Sky 3D channel and Sky Arts, on the weekend of June 10 to 12. Kasabian perform on the last day.
